Piers Allott is from a social work, management and health planning background and has experience in the design and delivery of community based mental health services in the UK and overseas. He is committed to the development of self-management approaches to recovery and recovery oriented personal supports and services. He was a founding member of the Centre for Mental Health Services Development, King's College London and was one of the founder Directors of the International Mental Health Network. He enabled the development of a successful user-run crisis residential alternative to psychiatric hospital in-patient admission in 1997 that has been independently evaluated. He was a member of the Core Group of the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE) and is the National Fellow for Recovery, and Honorary Member in the Institute of Applied Social Studies at the University of Birmingham. He is an approved Mental Health Recovery Educator with Mary Ellen Copeland and delivers Mental Health Recovery and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) Training in the UK and is approved to run WRAP Facilitators trainings.
