Gwen Adshead trained in general and forensic psychiatry at St George's Hospital. During her psychiatric training, she also completed a master's degree in medical law and ethics at King's College London, with particualr interest in responsiblity, moral reasoning and psychiatric illness. Since then she has written widely on various topics on ethics in mental health in both journals and as book chapters; she also teaches and presents regularly on this topic. She co-edited a book with Dr Christine Brown on ethical issues in forensic mental health research, which was published in 2003 by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. She is Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She has a particular interest in ethics in forensic mental health, and together with Dr Sameer Sarkar, is working on a book to be published by OUP.
