David N. Weisstub

Prof. David N. Weisstub, a graduate of the Yale Law School, was a Professor of Law for over two decades at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto. An international consultant on Mental Health Legislation and Forensic reforms he was invited to become the Philip Pinel Professor of Legal Psychiatry and Bio-medical Ethics at the Université de Montreal in 1993. Editor for 30 years of the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry, published by Elsevier Science, he has served on numerous editorial boards in the areas of jurisprudence, political theory, bioethics, information technology, and criminology. Currently he is Editor-in-Chief of the International Library on Ethics Law and the New Medicine, published by Springer. Prof. Weisstub is legal advisor to both the forensic and torture section of the World Psychiatric Association. He is a member of the advisory committee to the Federal Minister of Justice of Canada. Honorary life president of the IALMH, he is also chairman of its Human Rights Committee. Bestowed a Chevalier in the Legion D’honneur by the Government of France, he is also received the knighthood from the Queen of Holland in the order of the Dutch Lion. Prof. Weisstub has been Chairman of a number of Government inquiries and commissions, including the inquiry in Mental Competency and research ethics with vulnerable populations for the Government of Ontario. He is the author and editor of numerous publications in the field of jurisprudence and Mental Health Law.
